Amazing Hockey Shot

Did anyone else know that they've been playing professional hockey for a month now? I'm not a huge fan of hockey (note: They've been playing professional hockey for a month now and I hadn't noticed the season had started), however, trick shots excite me to no end....

This is a video of 9 year old Oliver Wahlstrom's shootout attempt in the Boston Bruins "TD Bank Mini 1-on-1" competition. It's an amazing shot.... He spins the puck up on his stick, then spins around himself and hurls the puck into the net.... Oliver currently plays in a league full of 12 year old hockey players, and I bet he embarrasses them all....

Banned Costume

Halloween is coming, and it's time to decide what costume you're going to wear.... Target stores are removing a costume from their shelves after a Southern California immigrant rights group said the costume was offensive to immigrants.

A representative for Target said the store never intended to sell the outfit, but included it in its online offerings by mistake.

Ossification of posterior longitudnal ligament-CT

Ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is a well-documented cause of cervical spine stenosis and myelopathy among Japanese patients. Its etiology still remains obscure. This entity is rarely seen in Indians. OPLL occurs after the age of 40 years and the most commonly affected region is the cervical spine, usually at C4/5, although the thoracic and lumbar regions are not exempt. The frequency of involvement diminishes as the level descends as follows: cervical 70-75%, thoracic 15-20% and lumbar 10%. The unexplained intimate relationship of OPLL with cervical spondylosis and diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is well known. This is post laminectomy CT scan of a case of OPLL.

Philippine Blog Awards 2009

I just would like to take a short moment to announce (belatedly) that my blogs dennisvillegas.blogspot.com and Pilipino Komiks made it to the finals of the recently held 2009 Philippine Blog Awards. The latter blog emerged as Special Award Winner for Best Filipiniana Blog. It was my very first blog established way back in 2004.

Meanwhile my blogpost in this blog The Diving Boys of Quezon Bridge was chosen as one of the Best Ten Blog Posts of the Year, out of the hundreds that had competed. I actually submitted a few posts including my Suicidal Jeepney Ride to Miagao, The Street Sleepers of Downtown Manila, Master Anos: The Exorcist, Petron Gonzales: Faith Healer and Rugby Sessions. But of them all, I thought that my Palito interview would have the best chance of winning. I still consider it as the best piece of writing and reportage I have ever done. But alas, the judges did not think it was my best post! (It did made it to the Finals, though)

Honestly, I had not expected to win anything but I attended the event just the same so I can finally meet the people behind the blogs that I truly admire. Some of them are Sidney Snoeck of My Sari-Sari Store (Winner of Best Foreign Blog), Dong of Dong's Eskapo, Lino of Lino Photography, Ferdz of Ironwulf.net, and Allan Barredo of Lantaw.com.

My new favorite street performer..... This guy apparently performs in Sydney, Australia.... I'm assuming he makes hundreds of dollars a day. He'd make tons of money on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

He makes me want quit my job so I can start my own one man band. I already have a head start.... I can play a pretty mean 'Hot Cross Buns' on the recorder.

OPTIC CHIASMATIC GLIOMA

Optic nerve glioma (also known as optic pathway glioma) is the most common primary neoplasm of the optic nerve. In 66% of NF-1 patients with optic nerve glioma, the growth involves the intraorbital optic nerve. In the absence of NF-1, the optic chiasm is most commonly involved, as is, less often, the intraorbital optic nerve. Optic nerve glioma may involve various portions of the retrobulbar visual pathway, including the optic nerve, chiasm, tracts, and radiations. Malignant lesions can invade the hypothalamus, basal ganglia, and internal capsule directly, or they may spread to the leptomeninges or subpial surfaces. On T1-weighted images, optic nerve gliomas are usually isointense to the cortex and hypointense to white matter. Invariably, the lesions are hypointense to orbital fat. On T2-weighted images, lesions demonstrate a mixed appearance that is isointense to hyperintense relative to white matter and the cortex. Following contrast administration, intense enhancement is common.
