Seriously, what did we do before Google? Or Wikipedia for that matter?

I remember having to use something called an encyclopedia when I was in high school.... Remember pulling each 70 pound volume off of the shelf, just to learn a random outdated fact about the population of South Dakota?


I wonder what school was like before calculators were invented? We really do have it easy, don't we? Are we too reliant on the internet?

Konami Code

If you're a video game nerd who grew up in the 80's like I am, you've played "Contra" for the Nintendo Entertainment System? It was one of the best games ever created by the Konami Company. You start the game with only three lives, however, if you enter a secret code during the title screen, you start the game with 30 lives. This code, known as the Konami Code, makes the game much easier..... It goes a little something like this....

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A

Apparently, there are many sites on the internet where you can enter the Konami Code to see special effects appear on the screen. If you enter the code while on Facebook, followed by Enter, a photo lens flare appears anywhere you click or type.... You guessed it! I thought 'Benson' was going to be one of the tougher shows to guess! Of course all of you know that Robert Guillaume, the star of 'Benson', played Benson DuBois, a character spinoff from his butler character in the sitcom 'Soap'. A cornucopia of hijinks ensued as he endured comical relationships with boss, Governor Gatling and his family, the governor's aides, and Miss Gretchen, as he climbed the ladder all the way to earn the post ofLieutenant Governor.

Did you know that Robert Guillaume was the voice of Rafiki in the Lion King movies?

'Benson' was the first show to demonstrate the use of the internet.... The computer network they were accessed was the ARPANET, which was an internet prototype used by the United States military and government.

Jerry Seinfeld's first on-screen performance was his 3 episode arc as 'Frankie' on 'Benson'! Maybe that was his inspiration for naming the main character 'Barry B. Benson' in the animated movie 'Bee Movie', which Jerry Seinfeld wrote and voiced the main character....

Did you know, that for his role in 'Benson', Robert Guillaume is the only African American to ever have won an Emmy for 'Best Actor In A Comedy Series'?

Monopoly City Streets

Everyone should come play this game with me.... It's absolutely free and you don't have to enter any personal information. It's a game of Monopoly, but you're not playing it on a game board. You can buy any street you want, any street in the world. The game uses Google Maps to find the streets, and assigns the streets a certain value based on length of the street and the amount of property a 'player' has built on that street. You can buy local streets and international streets. You can sabotage other people streets by building factories, and you can earn chance cards as you play through the game....

Don't be mad that I have already purchased the streets on which you live.... However, I'd be happy to sell them to you for a reasonable price.... Mwah! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!!!!! (Did you catch that the laugh was intended to be maniacal?)

It's Becoming Too Easy

Computer scientist Patti Maes spoke at a recent TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference in Long Beach, California. She brought a little gadget that was created by one of her grad students at MIT, assembled from parts that any of us could buy at our local electronics store (for about $350.00).

The device allows you to use the internet anywhere using a small computer with a projector that hangs around your neck, and small (different colored) caps worn on your fingers. It looks a little cumbersome, but imagine being able to take pictures just by putting your fingers in the shape of a square or project and dial a telephone keypad onto your hand.

Imagine picking up a book at your local bookstore, placing it in front of the projector around your neck, and getting the reader rating from Amazon.com on the cover. Or when you want to find out what time it is..... Simply draw a watch on your arm.....
