The 2009 Feast Day of the Senyor Nazareno may have been dominated by the pervading presence of the male devotees, but they do not, however, monopolized the faith. The female devotees came in thousands, too, as they also wanted to pay homage to the Black Nazarene.
I have noticed a steady increase in female devotees over the years that I have been covering the Feast Day of Quiapo. Although they may have been outnumbered by the men, they nevertheless have no less of the same deep religious devotion to the Senyor Nazareno. The women came in all ages: young and old alike. And they braved the crowd, the heat, and the exhaustion, just to get a glimpse of the beloved image.
