Awesome Father Takes Pancake Breakfast To Another Level

Before everything else in my life, I'm a father first.... And I get really excited when I find sites that feature good fathers. Jim documents his pancake adventures as he creates creative design and architectural creations for his daughter Allie. They're not simple star or square patterns, you'll see octopus pancakes and princess pancakes.... Here are a few of my favorites!

Click on the banner below to go to his site and see pictures and videos of the rest of his awesome pancakes!

Wake'N'Bacon Alarm Clock

Could this be the best alarm clock ever? Matty Sallin, Daniel Bartolini and Hsiao-huh Hsu of Mathlete.com have invented the 'Wake'n'Bacon' alarm clock.... Instead of waking up to the annoying buzz of your alarm clock, you're gently lifted from peaceful slumber by the smell of sizzling bacon.

Place a frozen slice of bacon in the alarm clock the night before, and two halogen lamps inside the clock slow cook the bacon ten minutes before you're supposed to wake up.... I'm not sure if you can eat a slice of bacon that's been left out overnight, but I'm pretty sure it will smell just as good while it's cooking....

Pickle Pops

While perusing a post that pitted game show hosts Alan Thicke and Marc Summers against each other over at 'Just The Cheese' by Powdered Toast Man, I started thinking....

What's the first thing you think of when you hear the name Marc Summers.... Double Dare? Ok, the second thing.... That's right, Pickle Pops.... Wait.... You didn't think of Pickle Pops?

On an episode of the Food Network show 'Unwrapped', hosted by Marc Summers, appeared a short segment on the now infamous Bob's Pickle Pops.

Do you ever sneak a sip of the pickle juice after you've finished the last crispy dill? Or added the pickle juice to a recipe to give it a little extra kick? Well, Pickle Bob had an even simpler idea.... Frozen Pickle Pops. It started out as a small operation at the local skating rink, where Bob would freeze and sell the leftover pickle juice. After quickly and repeatedly selling as many pickle pops as he could make every weekend, Bob decided to take his idea to the next level.

Packaging the Pickle Pops in a traditional Otter Pop fashion, Bob has taken his spicy dill, regular dill and lemon dill flavored pops nationwide. The pops contain only pickle juice and are currently being marketed as a healthier alternatives to sugary desserts.... The pops are currently being marketed to schools and concession stands nationwide, and could soon be seen in a store near you!

I Just Saved You From A Trip To Baker

Since my 'I Just Saved You From A Trip To Barstow' post was so popular, I figured I'd try it again....

Yesterday, I had to trek up to Las Vegas from Southern California for work.... Shortly after you pass the Zyzzx Road exit on the 15 freeway, you reach the small town of Baker, California.

The main attraction in Baker is the 'World's Tallest Thermometer'!

The thermometer is 134 feet tall and records temperatures up to 134 degrees Fahrenheit (a tribute to the record high temperature recorded in 1913).

As you can see, it was a sultry 84 degrees in the desert yesterday.....

I could have stopped at the infamous 'Mad Greek' restaurant, but I decided to take a chance and go to Bob's Big Boy. I have many memories of going to the Bob's Big Boy with my grandfather when he would pick me up after elementary school....

The 'Breakfast Buffet' is apparently a big draw at the Big Boy, but it was 2:00 pm when I entered the establishment and the buffet was still out. It looked like the buffet food hadn't been touched touched for a few hours, so it was easy to pass on the trays of hardened biscuits gravy and the scrambled eggs with an orange hue....

Seeing the Big Boy statue brought back so many memories of enjoying lunch with my Grandfather.... Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food this time.... The food quickly took on a 'rigor mortis' form at the bottom of my tummy....

One last question for all my Canadian readers.... The Bob's Big Boy had a 'Canadian Cheese Soup'.... They were all out of the soup when I attempted to order, and the waitress had no idea what was in the soup.... Do you guys have any ideas of what could be in the 'Canadian Cheese Soup'?

Double Down And Win At KFC

Don't say I've never done anything for you! About 6 months ago, I posted about the news of the Double Down Sandwich being tested at Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Rhode Island and Omaha.... Here's the marketing picture from KFC....

The Double Down Sandwich consists of two slices of bacon, a slice of pepper jack cheese, a slice of Swiss cheese, and some of the Colonel's sauce, all between two filets of KFC original recipe chicken. (You can get the Double Down with grilled chicken filets, but what's the fun in that?)

Well, here are my pictures! The Double Down in all its glory.... I jumped on the cholesterol grenade.... And it was an explosion of deliciousness....

Don't get me wrong.... My heart didn't like it, and I'm probably never going to order it again.... BUT, it didn't taste horrible! The chicken was moist and flavorful and the bacon was crisp, but the cheese was a bit bland and the 'Colonel's Sauce' gave a tiny kick to the sandwich (when you could taste the flavor of the sauce outside the flavor of the chicken).... I could definitely feel the salty sandwich sucking all the moisture in my body towards my stomach, and I feel tired after eating the sandwich, but I can say that I tried it!

Save The World - One Pizza Slice At A Time

I saw this innovative pizza box (and posted about it) about a year ago. It's one of the most ingenious ideas I have ever seen, and I knew that once the word was out, the inventors of this product would become billionaires quickly.

Apparently, the creators of the 'Green Box', Environmentally Conscious Organization, Inc.,
have completed a deal with the country's largest distributor of Italian foods to restaurants and food specialty shops, and they're being reviewed by three of the top four national pizza chains!

Made out of 100% recycled materials, the top of the pizza box tears into four plates, and the bottom of the box turns into convenient space saving storage for the remaining pizza. Check out this short video about the 'Green Box', marvel at the novelty, and store it away in your 'Why didn't I think of that!?!?!' file.....

Noodles

Have you ever seen someone make noodles from a lump of dough using only his hands? Sure, there are hundreds of videos of people making noodles by hand on the internet.... But this one is hosted and narrated by Alton Brown of the Food Network. He makes everything better.

Watch as Danny Yip, Executive Pasta Chef, of Mr. Chow's in Beverly Hills works magic with his hands. He makes hundreds of noodles, and never uses any sort of cutting device!

Double Down

KFC has a nine and a two, the dealer has a four showing..... What do they do? Double Down!

Sorry. I didn't laugh either.... Anyway, Kentucky Fried Chicken is testing their new Double Down Sandwich in Omaha, Nebraska and Providence, Rhode Island. The new sandwich consists of two slices of bacon, a slice of pepper jack cheese, a slice of Swiss cheese, and some of the Colonel's sauce, all between two filets of KFC original recipe chicken.

Sorry cholesterol, I want one. Maybe I'll order it without the "Colonel's Sauce".

Have A Slice..... Save The World.....

I'm not the guy who will go out and buy all new "green" light bulbs because installing them is the environmental equivalent of taking 500,000 Hummers off the road. But this is one of the best ideas I have EVER seen! How has nobody ever thought about this? How do I invest in this product? It would actually be irresponsible for establishments not to serve their pizza in these boxes....

Fifth Third Burger

The West Michigan Whitecaps are offering a huuuuuuge burger with tons of toppings, that might be a wee bit excessive.

The "Fifth Third Burger", named after the Fifth Third Bank (the sponsor of their stadium), is 5/3 pounds of grilled hamburger topped with lettuce, tomato, american cheese, nacho cheese, chili, salsa, sour cream and crunched tortilla chips. Saddled with the heroic task of holding it all together is an eight-inch sesame seed bun.

The burger will cost you a measly $20.00, and eating the burger all by your lonesome will earn you a free t-shirt....

Here are some crazy stats for this immense heart stopping creation...

This Is Why You're Fat - UPDATE

I posted a couple days ago about the Grande Breakfast Burrito from Jack-N-Grill in Denver, Colorado. I wrote that the restaurant menu claims that it's five pounds and that it's stuffed with potatoes, eggs, onions, and ham bits, lots of cheese on top and smothered in red chile.

I was off by a little bit, about two pounds!!!!! It's a seven pound breakfast burrito!!!!

If a man eats it in one sitting, he gets the burrito for free..... If a woman eats the burrito in one sitting, she gets to eats at Jack-N-Grill for free for the rest of her life!!!!!

Finally, this is the Lankford Gluttoneer from the Lunchbox Laboratory in Seattle, Washington. It's a half pound prime rib/sirloin/rib eye patty, american cheese, onions, maple bacon, hot link sausage, ketchup and honey mustard.

A Very Timely Olympics Blog!

The Olympics have come to a close, and now Michael Phelps is sponsoring every item in the world!

However, I have a proposal! Michael Phelps and I have a great deal in common, and I am far cheaper to hire as a pitchman. True, I am not much of a swimmer and have not even won one gold medal, but we are practically twins when it comes to training.

At least the eating part. The New York Post broke down what Phelps ate every day during the Olympic Summer Games.

"Swimming sensation Michael Phelps has an Olympic recipe for success - and it involves eating a staggering 12,000 calories a day.

"Eat, sleep and swim. That's all I can do," Phelps told NBC when asked what he needs to win medals. "Get some calories into my system and try to recover the best I can."

By comparison, the average man of the same age needs to ingest about 2,000 calories a day.

Phelps, 23, will swim 17 times over nine days of competition at the Beijing Games - meaning that he will need all the calories he can shovel in his mouth in order to keep his energy levels high.

Phelps' diet - which involves ingesting 4,000 calories every time he sits down for a meal - resembles that of a reckless overeater rather than an Olympian.

Phelps lends a new spin to the phrase 'Breakfast of Champions' by starting off his day by eating three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise.

He follows that up with two cups of coffee, a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar and three chocolate-chip pancakes.

At lunch, Phelps gobbles up a pound of enriched pasta and two large ham and cheese sandwiches slathered with mayo on white bread - capping off the meal by chugging about 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.

For dinner, Phelps really loads up on the carbs - what he needs to give him plenty of energy for his five-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week regimen - with a pound of pasta and an entire pizza. He washes all that down with another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks."

Me too! And, by the way, I have that same body that Michael is forcing you to look at above. I just don't feel the need to walk around on TV all day with no shirt on. What a show-off!
