Young and Beautiful Kelsey Smith is Dead

Ever since I read from MSN news that Kelsey Smith, 18 years old, went missing last June 2, 2007, from a parking lot in Kansas City, I followed the news development of the massive search to find her, hoping that she would be found alive and fine.

This morning, when I opened my MSN news page, a headline said that a body bearing strong resemblance to Kelsey's was found by police, some 20 miles from the parking lot where she was last reported seen.
It was later confirmed by police that it was indeed the body of Kelsey Smith, who was just a fresh graduate from High School five days before her disappearance.
Apparently, on June 2, 2006, at about 7:00P.M., Kelsey went to a Target store to buy some gifts and wrappers for the graduation party she and her boyfriend were about to attend at 7:30. The boyfriend was waiting at her home so they can go together to the party. Kelsey never arrived.
A surveillance camera from Target store shows a young man with goatee entering the store a few minutes after Kelsey's. Kelsey left the store at about 7:10pm. She was holding the present and some long rolled wrapper. Then the camera captured the young man leaving the store shortly afterwards. The police were puzzled that the young man did not buy anything.
Kelsey went straight to her car, an old 87 Buick parked in the Target parking lot. It was there that she was last seen.
Apparently, it was the habit of Kelsey to call her parents whenever she will be late or going somewhere. Her parents were alarmed because it was not Kelsey's personality without calling when being late.
Concerned that something might have happened, Kelsey's family went to search for her that very night. Two hours later Kelsey's grandparents found her 87 Buick near the parking lot of Macy's, near Target. But Kelsey was not in her car.
Examining the footages of the surveillance camera in Target store, the police spread word that the young man is a "person of interest", although they haven't called him a suspect, just that he might know something or might serve as witness about Kelsey's disappearance.
As I write this blog, a man bearing strong resemblance to the young man in footage has already been arrested--thanks to anonymous tip to the police. I wish that it would be the starting point of solving this heinous and senseless crime.
In a news conference, Kelsey's distraught father, Greg Smith--a 16-year veteran policeman-- thanked all the people who helped her find her daughter.

I condemn this senseless murder, as all of us should. What a promising young life has ended!
I extend my prayersand condolences to the family and friends of Kelsey Smith.
