Congratulations to Kate for being the fastest person to answer this week's 'Can You Guess This TV Theme?'! 'Mr. Wizard's World', the children's science show hosted by Donald Herbert, was often imitated, but never duplicated....


In 1950, the late great Donald 'Mr. Wizard' Herbert created the idea for a science experiment show for a television audience. NBC executives fell in love with idea, and 'Watch Mr. Wizard' was born in 1951. During the show, Mr. Wizard would perform exciting experiments, with a young assistant, that could be recreated in the viewers home with everyday items. 547 live episodes were created, and Mr. Wizard won a Peabody Award for excellence in Television, before the show was canceled in 1965.

Following the cancellation of 'Watch Mr. Wizard', Donald 'Mr. Wizard' Herbert wrote books on science and filmed many science-themed films and commercials.


In 1983, Mr Herbert developed 'Mr. Wizard's World', a faster-paced version of 'Watch Mr. Wizard', for Nickelodeon. "Everything on the show I learned by doing it,” Mr. Herbert said. I learned sooooooo much from Mr. Wizard. Way more than I ever learned from any science classes.

Did you know that Don Herbert was a guest on the first ever episode of Late Night with David Letterman in 1982?

The Late Shift

Don't get me wrong, I'm on Team Conan, but YouTube user FiveAlex2009 has posted 26 Jay Leno appearances on 'The Late Show with David Letterman'....

All before their friendship crumbled because Jay Leno and his manager used shady tactics to beat out David Letterman for the 'Tonight Show' host position after Johnny Carson had retired.... And when I say beat out, I mean, having an agent who bullies NBC executives and hiding in closets during executive meetings to gain an upper hand in negotiations.... Have you seen the movie 'The Late Shift'? It's about the battle for the 'Tonight Show' host gig.... Now we need 'The Late Shift 2' to cover NBC's latest debacle between Jay and Conan O'Brien....

Keep in mind, most of the videos include David Letterman asking Jay Leno a question, then Jay proceeding to talk for four to five minutes. But it was interesting to see their dynamic (and Jay 'Elvis' Leno) before the feud.... Click on the photo of Jay and Dave to see the videos....

Barack Obama Visits The Late Show With David Letterman

Did you see Barack Obama on "The Late Show" with David Letterman last night? What an impressive man.... Anyway, Letterman asked Obama about Jimmy Carter's recent comments about the behavior at the town hall meetings, and Obama answered with an impressive level of class and wit.

David Letterman: Withing the last week, Jimmy Carter started talking about this behavior, and was speculating that this unease or poor decorum, was rooted in racism. Is he on to something there, or is that just something to talk about?

Barack Obama: Well, first of all, I think it's important to realize that I was actually black before the election.

Entourage

Noah had a fever last night of 104 degrees....Pretty scary....He felt a lot cooler when I left the house this morning though. I hope he feels better today.

The television is back! And it works! Mmmmm....65 inches of goodness....

How does someone with sooooo little talent, get so many opportunities to show off his talentlessness? Kevin Federline is going to appear on three episodes of "Entourage"? He has been cast to play a deadbeat husband of a celebrity. I wonder how he is going to pull that one off. Seriously? Come on now...."CSI" and "Entourage"? When are we going to see Kevin Federline on "Lost" or "The Sopranos"?

Remember Kyra Phillips? The lady whose microphone was on during the Bush press conference. Well, apparently, she was talking about how great her husband is, then mentioned that her sister-in-law is "a control freak". Originally, I didn't know that she was saying the her husband was great and all that....but it's going to be a tense Thanksgiving dinner at her house this year. Well, she was on the Late Show with David Letterman to give the "Top Ten Kyra Phillips Excuses". Good job Kyra, way to go! That is a great sense of humor!
