Another Rescue On The Hudson

Everybody remember the crash of US Airways Flight 1549? Where Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger heroically landed the huge A320 Airbus on the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 people on board....

Since the plane crash, reporters and camera crews were kept away from the scene by the police and the FBI.... However, New Yorker David Hugh Martin, who has an apartment right above the Hudson River, positioned his camera to record the rescue of the plane.... Three days of rescue footage were clipped together to make an amazing time lapse video of crews trying to bring the plane out of the river. It's amazing to watch the plane struggle to stay afloat as huge chunks of ice barrage the rescue efforts....

We Have Nothing To Fear

Gay marriage was voted down in the New York Senate this afternoon with a vote of 38 to 24, as New York state lawmakers rejected a bill that would have made same-sex marriage legal in the state of New York. Senator Diane Savino of Staten Island gave a wonderfully eloquent speech on the floor of the Senate in support of the Marriage Equality bill. Why do we support the mockery of the sanctity of marriage with shows like 'The Bachelor' or 'The Bachelorette', yet we can't support a man loving a man or a woman loving a woman? What are we afraid of?

Citizen Of The Day #2

Nate Hill, a performance artist from Brooklyn, New York, has garnered quite a bit of attention for his actions.

Dressed in a white tuxedo and a dolphin headpiece, he transforms into he becomes his "Crackie". And every other Saturday night, between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., he delivers $1 bags of "crack" - really crystallized sugar - to anyone who calls in an order in Williamsburg and Greenpoint, New York.

Just what we need, another large man dressed as a large dolphin in a tuxedo, selling fake crack to anyone who orders. This is becoming an epidemic!

The Elevator To Heaven

Video artist Marco Brambilla was commisioned by the owner of the Standard Hotel in New York to create an art piece that could be installed in the hotel's elevators.

As the elevator rises, the video takes you from the fiery pits of hell to the serene tranquility of heaven. And as you descend, you're taken back to the fiery pits of hell.

The artwork is amazing, but I have a couple of questions....

Is Marco Brambilla comparing the streets of New York to hell?

and

Do I need to reserve a room in the hotel to use the elevator?

and

If I don't reserve a penthouse hotel room, will I not be able to see the entire piece?

Well.... If the answer to the third question is yes.... You're welcome, I just saved you from a trip to New York and spending $1,000 on a penthouse hotel room.

You have to watch it a few times to catch everything... I think I saw Michael Jackson and Arnold Schwarzenneger.... I know I saw the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man....

Paper Planes

Check this guy out.... He threw a paper airplane from the 31st floor of an office building in New York City and recorded the flight....

Mr. Ken Blackburn currently holds the record for time aloft for paper airplanes (thrown from the ground...). The current record is 27.6 seconds! Think you can beat it?

You can visit his website here (and get all the information you might possibly want to know about paper airplanes):
