He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

These children are beggars in front of the Binondo Church. The older boy is eight years old and the baby boy he was carrying was his sick younger brother. Their father already abandoned them and their mother was away begging for some coins from the pedestrians.

I am always moved to pity whenever I see these poor people and I help them whenever I can by giving food or some money.

The brothers reminded me of the 1960s song "He ain't heavy, He's my brother", a very beautiful song that became a cult classic especially because of the meaningful lyrics and the emotional way it was sung by the Hollies.

As I walked away from them, the boys' unforgettable eyes lingered in my mind. I heaved a heavy sigh that I cannot help them enough to save them from their current plight.

He Aint heavy, He's My Brother

The road is long

With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He Aint Heavy,
Hes My Brother - Hollies

If I'm laden at all

I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another.

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.
