Some Familiar Personalities in Quiapo

Quiapo is a very interesting place...not only because of the Church...nor only because of the filth, the pollution, the dust, or the pirated dvd's . But especially because of it's people. Obviously, Quiapo is a conglomerate of the good, the bad, the handsome, the ugly, and the beautiful. There are some very interesting characters around, and you'll have plenty of time to meet them when you decide to spend an afternoon stroll after the traditional Black Nazarene Friday mass.
Here is therefore a gallery of some of the interesting personages you'll meet in the beautiful and ugly Quiapo.

The Mystical man of Quiapo. He always sits in Plaza Miranda every Black Nazarene mass in Quiapo. He calls himself Kristong Hari, and claims he can heal people. Few people believe him though.

Kristong Hari's assistant.

The anting-anting/agimat seller These are the local versions of amulets.

Some of her amulets for sale.

Quiapo Fortune Tellers. Each of them must be called "Madame".

The candle sellers

Mr. Balloon Man.

A Nazarene devotee

The sidewalk masseuses of Plaza Miranda. For 50 bucks, you can have your torso massaged.

Herbal seller. She sells roots, leaves, herbal medicines, oils, potions, and amulets, even pampa-regla...

Jun. You can buy from his camera shop a lot of good second-hand lens and cameras. We were joking around when I snapped this portrait. He's actually one of the nicest man you can ever meet in Quiapo. It's from him where I bought my rangefinder.
